Sports News 2017-2018

Year 3 Football 21st September 2017

The Year 3 football team started the term off well with a brilliant performance.  They played excellently and got through to the semi-finals in which they lost 1-0.

Charity Rugby Tournament 27th September 2017

Our rugby team worked extremely hard at the charity rugby match.  They played Penketh South and improved as a team.

School Games Day Opening Ceremony

This year, we launched the start of our School Games Day with an opening ceremony.  We talked about the school games values and how they could be demonstrated during the School Games Day.

Even though the weather was not on our side, the Key Stage 2 children persevered to have an excellent School Games Day.  They participated in many events and demonstrated the School Games Values throughout!  The Year 5 children did an excellent job of leading the Key Stage 1 sports day and showed brilliant leadership skills.

After an excellent School Games Day, we celebrated by awarding children from each house for demonstrating the School Games Values.  We also awarded children for achieving either first, second or third place.  Well done to everyone who participated!

Under 9's Football 13th October 2017

Well done to our Under 9's girls football team, who came second overall in the competition.  An excellent result!

Year 5 PE Festival 18th October 2017

Year 5 had a great day out at Bridgewater High.  The PE students led lots of different activities for them to participate in.

Games Club- lunchtimes

Our new games club has been very successful.  Children have the chance to participate in different games and activities every week.  They have great fun, whilst learning new skills.

Cross Country at Walton Gardens

All children gave 100% at the first cross country event of the year.  Well done to everyone who participated.

Year 3 Road to Goodison 24th November 2017

Year 3 did very well to win their group.  Unfortunately, they lost in the final, but put in a great effort and were an excellent team.  

Warrington Wolves Assembly- Raising Aspirations

Warrington Wolves delivered a fabulous assembly all based around the theme of raising aspirations.

Year 4 enjoyed a great tournament and came third overall in their group.  Well done!

Our Y4 Swimming team tried exceptionally hard in their swimming tournament.

Cross Country 9th December 2017

Cross country was even more challenging this time, due to having to run through snow!  Everyone was very determined, despite the difficult conditions. 


House Tournaments

This half term, we have been learning many different sports.  Years 3, 4 and 5 have participated in house tournaments in tri-golf, tennis and hockey.  The children will earn house points for their house, so have been trying very hard!

Year 5/6 Netball

The Year 5/6 netball team had a great time at the first tournament of the year.  They worked well as a team and developed their skills as the tournament went on. 


U11's Girls Cheshire Finals

Our Under 11's Girls Football team had a great day out to Crewe to participate in the Cheshire Finals.  They played three games and improved throughout the tournament.  The girls worked extremely hard to support and encourage each other.  Well done!

Year 3 PE Festival 15th February 2018

All of Year 3 enjoyed an exciting morning at Broomfield's Leisure Centre.  They had a great time trying out lots of different activities, from athletics to rugby and all worked really well in their teams. Well done!

Year 6 Road to Goodison 16th February 2018

Our Year 6 A team and B team enjoyed an afternoon of football.  The A team did well to draw two of their matches and the B team worked really well to support each other and participated well.

Basketball Taster Sessions 27th February 2018

Year 3, 4 and 5 were luckly enough to try out some basketball sessions.  They enjoyed learning a new skill and hopefully will want to continue and join a basketball or netball club.

Year 5/6 Fire 7s Rugby

Our Year 5/6 rugby team took part in the Cheshire Fire 7s on Friday night at the Haliwell Jones Stadium and were narrowly beaten 3-2 by St Benedict's school.  Thank you to all the boys who took part and for Mr Farrall for providing the additional coaching session for the team.

Year 5/6 Mini Basketball 15th March 2018

Our A team and B team had a great evening playing basketball.  Our A team won two of their three games, taking them through to the semi-final, which they lost by one basket.  Our B team won one of their games and came third in their mini league.

Our Y5/6 team won their group but then lost their semi-final on a penalty shootout at the Broomfields’ tournament 


Year 5 Road to Goodison 2nd May 2018

Our Y5 team won their 3 group games 9-0, 7-0, 3-0 and their quarter-final 2-0 only to narrowly lose their semi-final in the ‘Road To Goodison’ tournament at Priestley College.


Cross country 23rd May 2018

Our cross country team did superbly well at the annual Culcheth meet on Wednesday 23rd May. With a field of 15 schools, our runners coped admirably in the heat finishing:

Y5/6 netball tournament 14th June 2018

 We hosted the Annual High 5 Netball tournament last Thursday. Our 2 teams performed really well though Grappenhall Heys ran out eventual winners. 


Bales Race 19th June 2018

16 Y3-5 children took part in the annual Bales race at Broomfields Junior School. In a field of 14 schools, they Y3/4 girls finished 10th, the Y3/4 boys 12th, the Y5/6 girls 12th and the Y5/6 boys 4th.  Thank you and congratulations to all of the children involved!

Mini red tennis 20th June 2018

Our Y3/4 Mini tennis tournament participants did amazingly well with 1 team qualifying for the finals the following week. Well done to all the children who took part!

Year 3/4 football 26th June and Year 5/6 football 28th June

Both our Year 3/4 and Y5/6 football teams took part in tournaments at Grappenhall Heys last week. The Y3/4s sadly lost on penalties in their semi-final. The Y5/6 team went on to win their tournament and both teams showed exemplary team spirit, perseverance and sportsmanship. Well done everyone and thank you to Mr Dalgleish and Mr Sergeant who helped out at the Y3/4 event. 

Cluster athletics 3rd July

Y3-6 athletes enjoyed an action-packed day at Victoria Park last Tuesday in the annual Cluster Athletics Festival. We are especially proud of our children who performed so well in very hot conditions. 

Sky try rugby festival 18th July

All of Year 3 and 4 enjoyed an exciting day at Victoria Park.  They got the chance to play lots of games of rugby and were able to improve their skills throughout the day.
