Geography at Stockton Heath Primary School

Emily Saunders

Subject Leader: Miss Saunders

At Stockton Heath Primary School, our geography curriculum begins early on with an exploration of the wider world followed by study of our school grounds and local area. As children progress through school, they build on this local and global knowledge to develop their appreciation of the world in which they live. Children need to have knowledge of the wider world – its cities, countries, continents, seas and oceans, while developing an appreciation of their own place within society and the impact they can have, both collectively and individually. Our geography curriculum is designed to develop pupils’ curiosity and interest about the world, encouraging them to ask questions and build on their knowledge and skills.

SUBJECT-SPECIFIC INFORMATION

Please find below the Subject on a Page document and our Intent, Implementation and Impact Statement.

Progression in Geography

Progression in geography is mapped out against our Areas of Learning (our disciplinary concepts); these can be found below to show the progression from EYFS to Y6.

Knowledge Organisers

Class teachers have developed Knowledge Organisers for each of their geography topics. These help us to address children's prior learning, vocabulary, core knowledge and key concepts for each of our geography topics throughout school. These are regularly being updated, added and revised to ensure the very best outcomes in our history curriculum. Please check back for more soon.

We hope you find them useful to support any work, discussion or research outside of school!
