Governor Information
School governors have a wide range of duties and responsibilities but in a nutshell the governing body exists to provide support and appropriate challenge in the way a school is run. At Stockton Heath we have a board of governors from a wide range of backgrounds who bring a broad variety of skills to the role as well as lots of enthusiasm and energy.
The governors of the school can be found under the “Meet the Governors” section of the website.
Many of us, not just the parent governors, have children at school. Whilst it would be easy to be a governor from a distance, we are very keen to be close to what goes on in school and so where governors are able to, we also try to attend events such as school / class assemblies, performances, the annual prize-giving ceremony and sports events. We are also keen to spend time in school seeing how decisions we have made as a governing body are having an impact.
The Governing Body is made up of different ‘types’ of governors, and the work is done through various committees. There is also the Full Governing Body, which covers the statutory elements of the work of a governing body.
Governor terms of office at Stockton Heath Primary are 4 years. If you are interested in becoming a governor at any time in the future, please do let us know as vacancies arise from time to time. In any event, parent governor vacancies are advertised as they arise and a due process for nomination and election is followed. Governor Committees
The Governing Body is not responsible for the day to day management and organisation of the School. That responsibility lies with the Headteacher. It is the responsibility of the Governing Body to hold the Headteacher to account for the performance of the school and the implementation of the school's long-term Strategic Plan and the annual School Development and IT Development plans.
In order to fulfil its responsibilities effectively, the Governing Body has established a number of sub-committees, which meet at least once per term to discuss aspects of the school in more detail.
Some governors are also appointed to link with particular subjects / responsibilities (e.g. Maths, English, Humanities, Safeguarding and Special Educational Needs).
The Headteacher (or nominated representative) attends each committee meeting and full Governors' meeting. All Governors, in addition to sitting on the Full Governing Body, attend the meetings of at least one of the sub committees.
